Minnesota Road Testing Information

Parents will need to bring their students to the Road Test at one of  the Minnesota Exam Centers.
The student must be at least 16 years old, have held their Instructional Permit for a minimum of six months and have completed their three behind-the-wheel lessons.

It is recommended that you schedule an appointment. "Walk-in" exams are available at the North Metro (Arden Hills) and South Metro (Eagan) exam centers.

You will need the student's permit number to make an appointment. There are two ways to schedule appointments:

1.     Online:    www.mndriveinfo.org    Schedules exams up to 60 days in advance.

2.     Phone:    651-284-1000  This telephone number is for all exam centers. When you call, there are two options: automated or live. The automated phone option can only schedule appointments 60 days in advance. The live scheduler will be able to schedule up to six months in advance. The live scheduler is available Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Please note: if you want to schedule an exam at the Stillwater Exam Center, you will need to call and speak with a live scheduler.

What to Bring to the Road Test:
  • After the third behind-the-wheel lesson and all Safeway fees are paid, the student will receive a Course Completion Certificate (“White Card”) which must be surrendered to the Minn. Dept. of Public Safety when taking the road test.
  • The student must have a valid card permit (not a yellow receipt).
  • An current insurance card for the test vehicle.
  • The fee for a Class D license is $15.00, payable to the exam center (no credit cards accepted).
  • A parent or guardian must sign the license application.
  • We suggest you review the Minnesota Driver’s Manual, pages 6-8 for vehicle qualifications and equipment checklist. (If you do not have a vehicle that you want to use for the exam, we offer a training car and instructor for $80.00. Please call our office for more details.)
